Dear Dad, I have always called you Dad, even though I am your daughter-in-law. I have many wonderful memories over the course of many years. I have come to understand your dry wit, even though sometimes I would quizzically look at you, and you would just smile. I remember playing Uno ( I think that is how the grandchildren learned numbers and how to count). After work, I would come to pick up Cheryl and Michel from Camp St. Pierre. Occasionally, we have a glass of wine together and you would ask me "Did you read the paper today Cindy?" I would reply "No Dad, that's why I have you." I have so many wonderful memories, too numerous to recount here. I love you Dad. You will always be in my heart.

To my favorite Aunt Jennie and family, I am so sorry Uncle Jim passed away. I have so many memories of your visits to michigan. I loved having conversations with Uncle Jim even though sometimes it was hard for me to determine if he was serious or joking. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you as you celebrate the life of Uncle Jim, Husband, Father, Uncle, friend and so much more. I would love to give you all a big hug but a virtual hug will have to do. Love and prayers. Kathy (Corbin) Kitchen

Dear Captain Jim, I have two powerful memories separated by decades in time. The first involves one of the many fishing expeditions we took on your boat. We were trolling for blue fish using umbrella lures. Usually, when one the boys hooked a blue, a dad would be ready to reel in the tough fighting fish; but I would have no part of that. I was 10 years old and probably weighed all of 80 pound, but reeled in the big blue while the lactic acid burned the small muscles in my arms. After the fish was in the boat, I was feeling quite good about myself and decided to take another step forward into manhood. I had always watched the men sip the hot black coffee, poured from a thermos into a small styrofoam cup. When I requested a cup, I noticed a slight mischievous smile on your face as you poured me a cup. The coffee burned the roof of my mouth and I loved it. I've loved coffee ever since. My second memory is when you and Genny attended my dad's cremation ceremony and I saw you crying. I'm sure that was a rare experience for you but it blessed my heart forever.

Just adding Scripture. Isaiah 40:31,-But they that hope in the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall take wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. By now you are soaring like an eagle in the great clouds of Heaven, well done good and faithful servant.

Son, Brother, Uncle, Husband, Father, Father-in-law, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Friend, Neighbor and Captain. My dad was all of these (and some I have probably missed); and he was every one of these to perfection. He had 96 years to perfect each one, and that he did. Throughout my life, I've witnessed firsthand him be all these different roles. But of course for me, the most important was the Father role. I don't recall a time growing up when I didn't have everything I wanted, or maybe more appropriately - needed. From vacations to everyday life, my childhood was the best it could have possibly been. Driving to California and Michigan, with 3 to 6 kids in a car could not have been an easy feat, yet we did it, and it was fun! My love of the flag and everything America comes from him. No matter what I would be in the market for, he would remind us to make sure it was "Made in America". I would not trade a minute of time spent with my dad for anything – except for maybe one more minute. Then he was my kids Grandpa, and again – the very best. Every teacher, school nurse, Girl Scout leader, kids' friends, and kids friends parents all knew "Grandpa". Amongst many other things, he taught my kids you don't buy anything at the grocery store that's NOT on sale. You CAN eat hot dogs every day for lunch all summer long – and still love them. You CAN play outside all day. Their friends, the neighborhood kids – they all played at Grandpa's. I guess thinking about it now, while yes we had fun growing up on Sarina Drive, and yes my kids had fun with their Grandpa there, what we were all really doing was building a lifetime of memories there, that we would all need to get us through this week. And even though he lived a long, long life, for me, it wasn't quite just long enough. I love you Dad, Velma

Thank You James H. St. Pierre, for always being interested in what I was up to. Also, for the great memories like going to Mystic Connecticut, and coming back in 10 foot waves. All fishing trips and jokes. God Bless and say hello to my Mom.

Oh Captain! Since I was young, you never called me by my name. "Raymond..." "Steven..." "Peter..." And just when I thought you had to get it right with the next name, you'd say... "Oh, that's right Mary!" Then give me that smile, with a side smirk. I remember you asking me if I put my finger in a socket... I actually had just stopped straightening my hair. A special gift, of an evil eye necklace, after returning from one of your travels, (that I believed saved my life once). The many times you said you should be charging for Rex fertilizing our lawn. Coming to my rescue, when I was trying to secretly install a new toilet at the house. The years of gardening side by side, sharing plantings, talking soil, and comparing the growth of our gardens. The years of debates, conversations, and wine and beer at the kitchen table. And of course, Words with Friends. I'm so blessed to have so many years of memories. Thank you ❤️ Captain.
