Oceanis 331 Designer’s Notes

In the range of the comfortable boats of cruise of 10 m,Groupe Finot conceived, with the Beneteau 331 a cruising sailboatwhich allies comfort and performance:

  • Safety,
  • Solidity,
  • Speed,
  • pleasure of living aboard.

This boat is the continuance of the work on the Beneteau 321 with a fast, solid and very voluminous hull with a simple rigging and a effective deck layout.
Control and progress of the boat
The vertical bow, one moderated width, an important ballast and a low center of gravity gives to the Oceanis 331 an intrinsic important speed .
The operations available from the co*ckpit give a good control of the boat and of sails.
The weak deformation of the hull gives a good balance heeling. The co*ckpit resumes the usual ergonomics of our boats: being sit as well in the co*ckpit as on the gangways. Skirt with opening transom and shower of co*ckpit.
For the good progress of the boat, the draft and the ballast are important.
Main sail “semi- Full Batten” with fast taking of reef, lazy – jacks and cover of main sail.
Genoa 140 % on furling system
The sheet of main sail on rouf, unobstructed co*ckpit.
Rigid boom vang
By associating pleasure, comfort and safety, the Beneteau 331 remain in the spirit of the Groupe Finot: conceive sure, family, practical boats and easy to lead.

Just Launched

Big Little Beneteau
What can you do in a 33 feet? A lot. In Beneteau’s latest mid-size cruiser, the Beneteau 331, designer
Groupe Finot has made judicious, even clever, use of the boat’s 33-foot, 11-inch length and 11-foot, 2-inch beam.

Take the galley. It’s U-shaped for brace ability and security under way, the sink is near-centerline,
and the two-burner stove with oven has a stainless-steel crash bar for the cook to grab. The aft portion of the galley counter space is a sort of “heel-safe” zone; cordoned off by the companionway ladder and the
outboard galley stowage area, items placed on the countertop have a good chance
of staying contained when the boat heels or rolls more than the cook anticipated.

The aft double berth, saloon, and forward cabin are only slightly smaller than the jumbo-size accommodation
spaces of Beneteau’s 361, and the head, with its 6-foot, 2-inch headroom, is laid out for use under way. The only compromise of the interior plan is the saloon-seat-sharing nav station and minimal-size nav table. The boat has a large-size (23 gallon) holding tank for extended cruises, but cruisers looking
to add electronic goodies may want to increase the boat’s standard battery
capacity (150 total amp-hours). For light and ventilation the Beneteau 331 has
five opening ports, four non-opening hull ports, and two Lewmar hatches.

The co*ckpit should handle three to four people under sail, and the port co*ckpit locker, deep and long, is
designed to accommodate a liferaft as well as the usual assortment of fenders
and the all-important collection of “stuff” that cruisers accumulate.
Beneteau is offers at no additional cost a Cruising Package that includes
Raytheon ST60 Tridata instruments, a Standard Horizon VHF, sternrail seats,
stereo, shore-power cord, and hot-and-cold co*ckpit shower. All (well, almost
all) the comforts of home.

The first comment most sailors make about the Beneteau 331 is “I can’t believe
this boat is only 33 feet long!” And once you step aboard this amazing
mid-size passage maker, we believe you’ll agree. Built for comfort and ease of handling, you’ll appreciate the wonderful performance capabilities and enormous interior volume – whether you’re taking her for a
weekend cruise or racing in a Wednesday night regatta.

For anyone who is looking for the perfect cruising yacht for a couple or family,
it’s worth a trip to see the Beneteau 331. Packed with features and standard
equipment that are normally only found on much larger boats, the 331 is a
welcome addition to the Beneteau line of cruising sailboats.
